The Price of Gasoline

The Price of Gasoline
“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”1 Thessalonians 5:18

It is difficult to go somewhere today without hearing someone complain about the price of a gallon of gasoline. The U.S. national average for a gallon of gasoline on July 14 was $4.11. That is $1.06 higher than it was this time last year. This is certainly a shocking adjustment for a 12 month period.

But think of all the reasons we can still rejoice at our local gas pump:
• California has the highest gasoline in the U.S. at $4.52 per gallon. West Tennessee certainly looks better than the land of fruits and nuts! Thank You, Lord!
• The United States of America is the 44th cheapest country in the entire world for gasoline. The highest priced gasoline in the world is in the North African country of Eritrea. They pay $9.58 for a gallon of gasoline. Our English speaking friends in the United Kingdom pay $8.38 for a gallon. While America has her faults, the price we pay for gasoline should not be our main complaint. Thank You, Lord!
• Approximately 38 cents per gallon is Federal and State tax. This money goes to build our highways. You may think our roads are not the best, but I have ridden on highways in other countries. We have much for which to rejoice in regards to our highways. Thank You, Lord!
• Personally, I rejoice that small, economical vehicles are popular again. My Honda Civic averages about 35 miles per gallon. It doesn’t matter that I look like a pumpkin on a roller skate; I’m getting great gas mileage. Thank You, Lord!

As we seek to be obedient to the commands of our Savior, let us rejoice that we live in the 44th cheapest nation in which to buy a gallon of gasoline. Would you like to live in the country that has the cheapest gasoline? That would be the South American country of Venezuela. They pay 12 cents a gallon for gasoline. Venezuela is home to the anti-American dictator Hugo Chavez. They are a major producer of oil and the economy is subsidized by the government owned oil industry. Suffice it to say, life in Venezuela is not comparable to life in the U.S.

Therefore, the next time you fill up your Edsel with gasoline, give thanks to the Lord! It would be a great witness and you would be obeying the Word of God.

‘Til Jesus Comes,
Bro. Ray

This will get me in trouble...

This is one of those infamous email forwards that we all get. However, I have found this to be very thought provoking. It may get me labeled a racist or something, but I really don't care! It is very true.

------------------------
Just wondering...

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a "vanilla" Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Vacation 2008

If you ever have the urge to buy a motorhome, my recommendation is to rent one of these and travel for 3200 miles in 7 days and then rethink your decision! If you don't want to rent one, just borrow a Pulpwood truck and drive to Maine and back and you will get the general idea. (Just kidding! It was really a great experience. The pictures below convey the experience.)

Mixed Emotions

You ever had the feeling of happy and sad? Happy they are growing up and becoming a man, but sad you are losing them to manhood? What happened to that little boy I used to tickle on the floor? He's now a high school graduate! His mother and I are so very grateful!
